Slow Start Dooms Jam in 93-85 Loss to Bighorns

BAKERSFIELD, January 14, 2014 - The visiting Bakersfield Jam (10-12) couldn't overcome a horrible start to the game, struggling in the first 12 minutes of the game before mounting a late rally that came up short 93-85 to the Reno Bighorns (11-9) Tuesday night.
The Jam struggled badly in the first quarter as they scored a total of 10 points, shot 29 percent from the floor and committed 11 turnovers. Bakersfield fell behind by as many as 16 points but went into the break down 45-34.
Ike Diogu powered the Jam in the third quarter as he had 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks, and helped Bakersfield outscore Reno 29-20 to get back in the game. Down two points entering the final frame (65-63), the Jam captured their first lead of the game (85-84) at the 1:10 mark after Diogu converted on a three-point play. However, Bakersfield's lead quickly vanished as they committed three crucial turnovers in the final minute and ultimately saw their late rally come up short.
Diogu finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Damion James recorded the only double-double of the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Billy Baptist posted 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.
The Bighorns were led by Mo Charlo who had a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Ray McCallum, on assignment from the Sacramento Kings, posted 16 points, five assists and five steals. Trent Lockett and K.C. Rivers each contributed 13 points.
Bakersfield's next match is at home against the Tulsa 66ers on Friday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
