BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have assigned guard Rajon Rondo to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League.
"Rajon is progressing terrifically in his rehab and this is the next step," said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations. "This is a brief assignment so that Rajon can participate in a workout this afternoon with the Red Claws and he will be called back up to the Celtics upon the conclusion of the workout."
Rondo, a 6'1" guard, has not played in a game for the Celtics this season and is currently recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee. He appeared in 38 games for the Celtics last season and averaged 13.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 11.1 assists and 1.8 steals in 37.4 minutes per game.
