Legends Announce Military Night

FRISCO, TX, (Jan. 15, 2014) - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), will host their third annual military night, honoring the nation's true legends with the American Fallen Soldiers Project. Saturday, Jan 18 the Legends will wear customized jerseys honoring America and those who defend it, thanks to the generosity of SwypIt.com.

"Our custom jerseys are designed to bring awareness to those working to better the community," Texas Legends owner Donnie Nelson said. "There are none more deserving than those who've made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of others - our men and women in the military. Our service men and women are the true legends and we look forward to honoring them with American Fallen Soldiers Project. Thanks to Swypit.com for helping to make this possible."

During halftime, the American Fallen Soldiers Project will present to the family of fallen serviceman, Army Cpl. William D. O'Brien, an original portrait of their loved one. Cpl. O'Brien, who was from the North Texas area, was killed in action on March 15, 2008 in Iraq.

"We have three tenets that we stand by," American Fallen Soldier Project co-founder Lisa Taylor said. "The first is to honor the serviceman and his sacrifice; the second is to honor their family; and the third is to remind Americans of the sacrifice that's been made to protect our freedoms. One of the common concerns from the families we serve is that their loved one will be forgotten. We're able to accomplish all of these goals through the public presentations. It helps remind everybody and it also opens their heart a little bit to where they recognize it and put a face to the name. On the Sunday morning news there's a little 15 second blurb that scrolls across with the names of the Fallen. We're trying to put a face to the name and help people realize that these are real people, real families, real impact and how we all should be proud to be an American."

The O'Brien family will be named as "Legends of the Night" at midcourt before the game, all members of the armed forces in the audience will be recognized, and the Legends will take on the Austin Toros while wearing specialty jerseys designed similar to the American flag in order to honor all those who keep it safe. The jerseys will be provided by SwypIt.com.

"Our military night last year was one of the most special events I've had the opportunity to be a part of," SwypIt.com President Kevin Hodes said. "It's an honor to be able to give back to those who sacrifice themselves for people like myself and my family. This night gives us an opportunity to celebrate those lives and show their families that we appreciate and support them."

Hodes has been involved with the American Fallen Soldiers Project for years, dating back to the days it was known as the Texas Fallen Soldiers Project.

"Phil [Taylor] is doing something to really help a family," Hodes said. "When Phil does what he does, you just know that there could be some peace for that family. Being able to have a venue like this to help them further their cause, because they're an organization that only does everything through donations, that's important for us."
