Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Lethbridge, AB - One team's losing streak was going to end. The Lethbridge Hurricanes stopped their slide at 3 games with a 4 - 1 win over Edmonton. The Oil Kings are now winless in 12 after a disappointing start to their busy weekend that will see them play 3 games in 3 nights. Sophomore goalie Brandon Anderson stopped 26 shots while the Hurricanes Cam Braes and Jacob Bergland each picked up a goal and 2 assists in the victory.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring about midway through the first when Brody Sutter showed a burst of speed down the left wing and zipped a cross-crease pass to Mark Reners who was driving hard to the net. He tapped in his 6th of the year to make it 1 - 0 for the home side.
The Canes second goal of the game was the product of driving hard to the net again. Cam Braes threw a backhand on net and Graham Hood stuffed his own rebound by Torrie Jung who was crowded in his crease on the play. Hood's 12th of the season came with just 38 seconds remaining in the middle stanza which knocked the wind out of the visitors for a while.
Lethbridge got the insurance they would need when Braes potted his 14th of the season at the 16:34 mark of the third period. Edmonton's Adrian Van de Mosselaer replied just over a minute later to spoil Anderson's shut out bid. Berglund's goal came with Torrie Jung pulled for the extra attacker to make the final score 4 - 1.
Edmonton's modern franchise high winless skid is now 12 games and they will try to shake it off in a hurry. They'll start a home and home series against the Medicine Hat Tigers starting Saturday night down south. The return engagement will be at Rexall Place on Sunday at 5 p.m. It's a Signature Sunday with a full team autograph session after the game and it will be televised nationally on Rogers Sportsnet.
There are plenty of great seats still available and fans headed out to the Edmonton Oilers Skills Competition powered by Reebok are invited to make a complete Hockey Day In Edmonton out of both terrific family events on Sunday. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, on-line at oilkings.ca or at the Rexall Place box office.
