Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Tornadoes committed a season-high tying 5 errors, leading to 4 unearned runs, as the Grays took the first game of the three-game series, 7-2, at Hanover Insurance Park on Friday night.

The Grays jumped on righty Shaun McNamara (2-5) in the 1st inning, using a walk, a stolen base, a single and a sacrifice fly to go up 1-0. They made it 4-0 in the 3rd, scoring three times on an Omar Pena error, a two-run double by Charles Jeroloman and an RBI single by Josh Colafemina. The Grays expanded their lead to 6-0 in the 5th, scoring two more unearned runs on 2 hits and 3 errors (2 by third baseman Mike MacMillan). The Tornadoes got one in the 5th on a Keith Beauregard solo home run and another in the 7th on a Patrick Perry two-out RBI single, but the Grays tacked on one more insurance run in the 9th to put things away.

Elliott Shaw (5-7) picked up the win despite walking 6 men in 6 innings and McNamara (2-5) was betrayed by his defense and took the loss. The Tornadoes have now committed a league-high 103 errors in 72 games this season. Worcester has scored 3 runs or less in 6 of the last 7 games and is 3-22 on the season when scoring less than 4 runs. Patrick Perry extended his hitting streak to 11 games. The Tornadoes will try to even up the series at one win apiece on Saturday night when they send righty Alex Pena to the mound opposite Grays righty Fontella Jones. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
