Skyhawks Downed in Pitchers Duel
August 10, 2007 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
The Skyhawks pitching was excellent tonight however, the Spirit's pitching was dominant and that netted them a shutout victory over Sussex by a score of 1-0.
Spirit starter Dennis Robinson was nearly unhittable allowing only 4 singles while striking out 5, en route to a complete game shutout. Jamie Merchant was stellar for the Skyhawks pitching 7 shutout innings and giving up only 3 hits. The difference in the game came when pinch hitter Anton French plated Gilbert Gil in the 8th inning, with an RBI single off of Dayle Campbell.
The Spirit looked to add an insurance run in the 9th inning, but Scott Grimes robbed Luis Lopez of an extra base hit, by making a tremendous diving catch in the right field corner. The Skyhawks will continue their series with the North Shore Spirit, Saturday afternoon, with first pitch set for 5:05.
North Shore will send Ryan Bicondoa(7-2) to the hill against Matt Hirsh(0-2) for the Skyhawks.
