Slammers Edge Grizzlies in Middle Game of Series

SAUGET, Ill. - Tim Brown went seven innings and struck out three, but that was not enough for the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night. The Joliet Slammers beat Gateway 3-2 to setup a rubber game Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.

Brown (1-1) is now 8-2 in his last 12 regular season starts dating back to 2012.

Gateway's Jonathan Johnson broke an 0-16 with a bunt single to lead-off the bottom of the first. He later scored on a Jet Butler single.

Joliet (3-2) scored in the top of the second to even the score 1-1. They added two more runs in the top of the sixth making it 3-1 Slammers.

Michael Wing lead-off the sixth for Joliet with a single. Kyle Maunus followed with another base hit. The next batter was Seth Schwindenhammer. He singled to score Wing. Maunus came home when Grant DeBruin hit a sacrifice fly to left.

Grizzlies (3-2) third baseman Chris McClendon cut the lead to one with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Gateway never got any closer.

Corey Kimes got the win in his first ever Frontier League start. Kimes went seven innings, gave up two runs, five hits and struck out four.

Gateway will go for the series win Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Chris Enourato (0-0) makes the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
