
Slammers Drop Day Game to Greys 10-1

Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL- The Frontier Greys (20-24) scored four runs in the third inning against the Joliet Slammers (21-26), on their way to a 10-1 win on Wednesday morning.
The Greys would get the scoring going in their half of the third when a laboring Kevin Walter walked DH Jose Rodriguez with the bases loaded to make it 1-0. SS Brandon Tierney followed with a single to center that scored two, extending the lead to 3-0. 1B Scott Carcaise reached on a fielder's choice that plated another run putting the Greys up by four.
The Slammers got one of those runs back against in the bottom of the third inning. With CF Charlie White on second, 3B Mike Garza hit a single to short right field, putting the Slammers on the board, down 4-1 after three.
Frontier added to their lead in the fourth inning. After back-to-back hits to start the frame, 2B Matt Williams grounded the ball back to Walter. The Slammers pitcher attempted to get the lead runner, CF Jhiomar Veras at third, but threw the ball past Garza allowing the run to come in. With runners now at second and third, C Mike Falsetti singled to center, driving in a pair. The Greys lead 7-1 after the top of the fourth.
With Adam Panayotovich on in the sixth, Veras hit his ninth homer of the year to make it 8-1. The Slammers put a pair on in the bottom of the inning, but failed to score.
RF Dillon Haupt extended the Greys lead to 9-1 in the eighth with a solo shot to left, this time off of pitcher Tyler Murphy. The visitors added to their lead in the ninth when Falsetti and LF Shane Brown singled. SS Brandon Tierney would double home Falsetti to make it 10-1 Greys. That would ultimately be the final score
Justin DAlessandro got the win (3-5) for the Greys while Kevin Walter (1-4) took the loss. Our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game was Mike Garza. He went 1-for-3 and drove in the Slammers lone run. Joliet will conclude their series with the Greys tomorrow night at 7:05pmCT. Watch the game on jolietslammers.com/gameday/slammervision/.
Notes: The 10-1 loss equals the Slammers' largest home defeat, matching a 9-0 loss to Rockford on June 17, which was also a day game...Mike Garza extended his hitting streak to five...He has eight RBI in his last five games...Catcher John Cannon pitched for the second time this year for the Slammers... Infielder Sam Klein played third base for the first time this year... The Slammers are now 1-3 in games with a scheduled 10:05am start time...The Slammers were 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
