Rascals Lose Opener to Crushers

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (23-22) lost their series opener 5-1 to the Lake Erie Crushers (18-25) on Tuesday, July 7 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

RHP Dane Stone (L, 3-2) made his eighth start and received the loss. He surrendered two earned runs, four total, eight hits, and three walks. Stone struck out four batters over 5.2 innings of work.

Lake Erie starter Brad Duggy (W, 5-2) earned the win in his second start of the season. He surrendered just two hits and four walks over 5.0 shutout inning and punched out five batters.

The Crushers took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning. Austin Prott and Anderson Hidalgo each hit infield singles. Jose Barraza then hit a two-out single that brought home Prott, and an error by LF Brian Hansen allowed both runners to move up an extra base. Next Joey Burney hit a two-run single, driving home two unearned runs.

Turner Gill hit a solo homerun off of Stone to lead off the sixth. Gill's shot was his first career hit and snapped a 22-game homerless streak for the Crushers. Hidalgo led off the seventh with a homer, as well.

The Rascals scored a run in each of the last three innings. RF Jackson Slaid hit a solo homerun, his third, in the seventh. Then in the eighth, CF Curran Redal singled, Hansen doubled, and C Josh Ludy walked to load the bases with no outs. DH Danny Canela hit an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 5-2.

1B Zach Kometani led off the ninth with a double. After a couple of outs, Redal singled in Kometani for the Rascals final run.

RHP Chandler Jagodzinski surrendered only a solo homer in 1.1 inning of relief. RHP Marc Rutledge and RHP Zac Treece each tossed 1.0 scoreless frame.

Daniel DeSimone (S, 1) faced just one man and recorded the final out of the game. Mike Devine, Kolby Moore, and Trevor Longfellow each allowed one run out of the Lake Erie bullpen.

The Rascals and Lake Erie Crushers will continue their series on Wednesday, July 8 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
