Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., March 24 - All five starters scored in double figures as Sioux Falls used a team effort to defeat the Tulsa 66ers 123-104 and extend their season-high winning streak to seven games.
Despite playing without the services of Frank Williams, who sat out with an ankle injury, Sioux Falls (27-16) was able to grind out the victory in front of 5,284 fans that came out to see the hottest team in the D-League. The Skyforce remains tied for first place in the Eastern Division as the Dakota Wizards (26-15) squeaked out a victory at Arkansas on Saturday night.
"We were very fortunate tonight that the Pistons sent us Will Blalock," Sioux Falls coach Mo McHone said. "I also thought Elton Nesbitt did a great job filling in for Frank, you couldn't really tell we were missing one of our leading guys."
Blalock and Nesbitt combined for 17 points and 12 assists and did a great job on defense against D-League All-Star Will Conroy who scored just 10 points on 4-for-15 shooting from the field. Amir Johnson had another solid outing for Sioux Falls as he posted 20 points and a season-high 19 rebounds.
"What can you say about Amir Johnson, 20 points and 19 rebounds, the guy is so much fun to watch play," McHone said. "The sad thing about it is that there are only two games left for these people in Sioux Falls to see this kid."
Tulsa was led by Desmon Farmer who made 5-for-11 three-pointers on his way to 21 points. Jean Felix and Denham Brown contributed 17 points each and Frans Steyn came off the bench to score 16 points.
Sioux Falls is off until Friday night as they host the rival Dakota Wizards at 7 p.m. in a pivotal late season matchup. Tulsa will look to snap their four-game skid as they host the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
