Skyforce To Pick 13th In 2009 D-League Draft
September 29, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, S.D. (September 29, 2009) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce received the 13th pick in the 2009 NBA Development League Draft through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meetings today. The draft date will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Albuquerque Thunderbirds will have the first overall pick in a serpentine selection process, followed by the Erie BayHawks, Los Angeles D-Fenders, Bakersfield Jam, Utah Flash, Austin Toros, Reno Bighorns, Maine Red Claws, Iowa Energy, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Dakota Wizards, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Springfield Armor, Idaho Stampede and Tulsa 66ers.
The draft is "serpentine" or "snaked" which means the order will be reversed in each of the 10 rounds. For example, after picking first, Albuquerque's next selections will be the 32nd and 33rd overall. The Tulsa 66ers will select last in the first round, but first in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th picks overall.
Each of the NBA D-League's 16 teams will be given one pick in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
"Following this afternoon's lottery, and with the Draft order in place, we're one step closer to getting the 2009-10 season underway," said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. "It's always exciting to welcome top NBA prospects into our draft and our league."
In addition to the 13th overall pick, Sioux Falls will also select 20th, 45th, 52nd, 77th, 84th, 109th, 116th, 141st and 148th overall in the 160-player draft.
Season tickets and 12-ticket flex packs are on sale for the 2009-10 season. Discounts and benefits are also available for groups of 10 or more. Single game tickets will go on sale in early November. The home opener is set for Friday, Nov. 27 against the expansion Maine Red Claws. For more information please contact a Skyforce representative at (605) 332-0605.
