PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have been awarded the 8th pick in the 2009 NBA D-League Draft. The announcement was made by Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.
The NBA D-League Draft order was determined by random drawing at the annual NBA D-League Coaches Meeting held September 28 and 29 in Dallas. The draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning that the team picking last in the first round will pick first in the second round, alternating each subsequent round. The NBA D-League Draft consists of ten rounds, and no trades are permitted. Only players signed to NBA D-League Standard Player contract are eligible for the NBA D-League Draft which will be held in early November. The exact date of the 2009 draft will be announced by the league at a later date.
"There are some tremendous players available in this year's draft, and I am confident that we will be able to find the pieces that we need to put together a competitive team," said Jennings.
Up to 17 players selected by the Red Claws in the NBA D-League Draft and NBA D-League Expansion Draft, as well as allocation picks and local tryouts, will be invited to training camp in November.
