SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Springfield Armor 113-104 in the regular season home finale on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 5,305 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Sioux Falls finished the regular season 19-5 at home while Springfield fell to 0-24 on the road in their inaugural campaign.
After leading by eight points after the first quarter, Sioux Falls pushed the lead to 58-40 at halftime. Alexander Johnson nearly posted in double-double in the first half alone as he recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.
Sioux Falls led by double-digits the entire second half until Springfield cut the deficit to eight points (110-102) with 30.9 seconds to go following a dunk by Noel Felix. Newly acquired guard Kirk Penney helped the Skyforce maintain a comfortable lead as he scored 21 points in the second half behind 8-of-10 field goals.
With the win the Skyforce inched closer to homecourt advantage in the first round of the 2010 NBA Development League Playoffs. Sioux Falls can lock up a No. 3 or 4 seed with one more win or a Dakota loss. Dakota plays at league-leading Iowa tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT.
Penney scored a game-high 31 points in only his second game with the Skyforce including 12-of-17 shooting. Greg Steimsma had a solid game with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks while Alexander Johnson (19 points, 13 rebounds) and David Bailey (17 points, 15 assists) both recorded double-doubles.
Abdulai Jalloh led Springfield with a season-high 27 points, seven rebounds, and a season-high tying six steals. Felix and Marcus Campbell each posted a double-double with Felix scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and Campbell scoring 20 points and snagging 10 rebounds.
Springfield hosts Fort Wayne on Monday night at 7 p.m. ET. Sioux Falls makes their lone visit to the Golden State to take on Bakersfield on Friday night at 9 p.m. CT.
