Bakersfield's Alade Aminu Signs with Miami Heat

(New York) - The Miami Heat have signed Alade Aminu of the Bakersfield Jam, it was announced today. Aminu's is the 28th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season.

Aminu has appeared in nine games with the Jam since being traded on March 2 from the Erie BayHawks, averaging 19.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 33.1 minutes. He scored in double figures in all nine games in a Jam jersey, recording five double-doubles. In 46 total games this season, Aminu averaged 13.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 27.6 minutes.

Selected to play in the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star game in Dallas last month, Aminu scored four points in 19 minutes for the East team.

"We are extremely proud of this great opportunity for Alade," said Jam Head Coach Will Voigt. "He's worked very hard since he arrived here, and his call-up is an indication of all the positive things that this current group is achieving."

Aminu joins the first NBA roster of his career following a stint with the Washington Wizards during the 2009 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

A four-year contributor at Georgia Tech, Aminu averaged 6.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 17.0 minutes in 105 career NCAA games. As a senior, Aminu averaged 11.8 points, shooting 52.2 percent from the floor (5th best in the ACC) to go with 8.0 rebounds and 27.2 minutes.

Aminu is expected to join the Heat this afternoon and be available tomorrow when the team travels hosts the Toronto Raptors.
