Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., March 1 - Kasib Powell and Chris Alexander led the Sioux Falls Skyforce to a home victory over the Bakersfield Jam 116-107 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,876 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Powell scored a game-high 32 points while Alexander added 22 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth straight double-double. With the win, Sioux Falls (21-17) is now tied with the Dakota Wizards for the Central Division lead.
"All eight of our guys played well," said Skyforce head coach Nate Tibbetts. "Bakersfield is going to keep getting better and better the more they're around each other, so I was very nervous coming in."
Sioux Falls led almost the entire game and was able to extend their lead to 13 midway through the third quarter when starting point guard Elton Nesbitt went down with an injury. Bakersfield was then able to make a slight comeback to get itself back in the game by pulling to within six at the end of the third. The Jam was never able to grab the lead though and Sioux Falls put the game away late in the fourth quarter.
Six players scored in double-figures for Sioux Falls, including Bluntt who scored a season-high 13 points.
"We played team basketball and stuck to our game plan, that's what helped us get the victory today," said Powell. "We had a great crowd out there today that helped us get over the hump (at the end)."
Bakersfield was led by the trio of Justin Reed, Scooter McFadgon, and Mateen Cleaves who scored 32, 22 and 19, respectively. Reed and Cleaves were playing their first game of the season for the Jam. Bakersfield (6-30) has now lost six straight and fell to 1-21 on the road for the season.
Sioux Falls will play again tomorrow at Fort Wayne at 5 p.m. Bakersfield will also be on the road tomorrow as they travel to Dakota for a 6 p.m. game.
