Sioux Falls, S.D. (Dec. 3, 2011) - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 94-92 Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. Sioux Falls had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but Casey Mitchell misfired on a tough shot as Los Angeles completed the weekend sweep.
Los Angeles (4-2) took advantage of eight turnovers by Sioux Falls (1-3) in the first quarter and led by as many as 18 points (33-15). Mitchell scored 12 of his 20 points in the second quarter as the Skyforce outscored the D-Fenders 32-16 to tie the game at 50 apiece at halftime.
Sioux Falls trailed by as many as 13 points (80-67) with just over 10 minutes to go in the game but stormed back and had a chance to tie the game with 7.9 seconds left as Gabe Pruitt stepped to the line to shoot two free throws. After making the first attempt he missed the second and Los Angeles came up with the big defensive rebound. Jamaal Tinsley split a pair of free throws to push the lead back to two points and Mitchell missed a contested shot as Sioux Falls dropped to 1-2 at home.
Brandon Costner led all scorers with 34 points including a perfect 10-of-10 free throws. Elijah Millsap continued his strong play with 24 points, 15 rebounds and five steals.
Charles Garcia and Casey Mitchell each scored 20 points and Anthony Mason, Jr. added 16. Greg Stiemsma had a solid game with nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in defeat.
Los Angeles returns home to face Rio Grande Valley on Monday at 7 p.m. PT. Sioux Falls visits Iowa on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT.
