Iowa Cubs News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (28-23) exploded for 13 runs on 16 hits to topple the Iowa Cubs (20-31) 13-3, Wednesday at Security Service Field. Iowa's hits and runs allowed were its most give up in a game this season.

Iowa got off to a hot start with two first-inning runs, collected on an RBI groundout from Bijan Rademacher and a Victor Caratini RBI single. The lead wouldn't hold for long as solo home runs from Ji-Man Choi and Brett Phillips, in the first and second innings, respectively, knotted the game.

Jacob Hannemann would put the I-Cubs back on top in the fourth with an RBI double, but former I-Cub Aaron Brooks quickly quieted the Iowa bats. Brooks would allow just three hits and no runs through three frames.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs heated up, busting to an 8-3 edge with a six-run fifth. A four-run seventh, highlighted by a Christian Bethancourt homer, propelled the Sky Sox further ahead. Another run in the eighth solidified the final 13-3 score as Colorado Spring scored 10 unanswered runs.

Jen-Ho Tseng (2-5) took the loss, getting tagged for six earned runs through 4.2 innings. He had the chance to get out of the game with three runs allowed but exited with the bases loaded and all three inherited runners scored on Zach Hedges. Brooks took the win to improve to 4-1.

Mike Freeman led Iowa's offense with a 3-for-5 night. Efren Navarro chipped in two doubles and is 8-for-12 with four doubles through his last three games.

Iowa and Colorado Springs clash again tomorrow at Security Service Field at 7:40 p.m. CT. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com .
