Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT - The Beloit Sky Carp kicked off their homestand on a decidedly upbeat note Tuesday night as they defeated the Peoria Chiefs 5-2.
The Sky Carp pulled within two games of the Chiefs for a playoff berth with the win. Beloit used a three-run fifth to take the lead, then added two more in the seventh for good measure.
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, newcomer Cristhian Rodriguez picked up the biggest hit of his young Sky Carp career, crushing a two-run double to left field that just barely missed leaving the ballpark.
Rodriguez later came around to score on a Peoria lead to give the Carp the lead for good.
In the seventh inning, Osiris Johnson crushed his seventh homer of the season, an opposite-field blast that made it 5-2.
Jared Poland (4-5) continued his strong second half by allowing just two runs in 5 2-3 innings of work. Breidy Encarnacion was terrific out of the bullpen, throwing two scoreless innings, while Cristian Charle picked up his first save of the season by getting the final four outs of the game.
Stan Milam was the guest of honor Tuesday night. The local radio legend had his own bobblehead given out to the first 500 fans, threw out the first pitch and was given an in-game salute by Sky Carp owner Quint Studer.
The Sky Carp and Chiefs will continue their six-game series Wednesday night at 6:35. It's One Price Wednesday, when fans can get a game ticket, soft drink, chips and hot dog for just $18.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
