Sky Carp Can't Overcome Love, Peoria

July 8, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit's bats went silent for a second straight night as Peoria evened the series with a 4-0 win on Friday night at Dozer Park.

The game started promising for the Sky Carp, as Beloit threatened rehabbing Major Leaguer Drew VerHagen with runners on second and third in the first inning but failed to capitalize.

VerHagen exited after just one inning, giving way for Austin Love, who made things less than lovely for Beloit. Peoria's originally scheduled starter proceeded to fire seven shutout innings, allowing just two singles while striking out seven.

For his efforts, Love received the victory, his third of the year against Beloit.

On the other side of the scorecard, all the Chiefs' runs came as one spots on the linescore. Sky Carp starter Dax Fulton scattered three runs across five innings of work but struck out a season-low three batters while also walking three.

The offensive highlight of the night was Nasim Nunez, as the Beloit leadoff man reached in three of his four plate appearances, including two singles.

The series continues tomorrow night at 6:35 at Dozer Park. Righty Evan Fitterer will take the ball for Beloit as the Sky Carp search to get back in the win column. Fans can listen to the action for free on the Big Radio app.
