Skid Hits Three in a Row with Late Inning Loss
July 4, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
It was a bad case of déjàvu for the Winnipeg Goldeyes Wednesday night.
The Goldeyes took a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning, only to watch the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks storm back for a 5-3 win before 4,811 fans.
After each team scored a run in the third inning, the Goldeyes took a 3-1 lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. However, Winnipeg left one man on base in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, failing to capitalize on a chance to extend its lead.
Fargo scored four runs in the eighth inning to retake the lead, doing so on four hits and the benefit on an error. The knockout blow came when Zach Penprase hit an RBI double to tie the game and then scored on a Jon Gaston single for what would be the winning run.
Jon Weber had two hits for Winnipeg, while Price Kendall, Chris Roberson and Luis Alen drove in the runs.
The Goldeyes wasted a terrific outing from starter Ace Walker, who allowed just a run on three hits through seven innings.
Kyle Dahman picked the win for Fargo, while Tom Boleksa got the save for the second straight night.
Billy Spottiswood was on the hook for the runs in the eighth inning and took the loss.
The third game of this four-game series goes tomorrow night at Shaw Park. Winnipeg will send lefty Tony Butler to the bump, while Fargo will counter with Paul Burnside.
The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
Great seats are available by clicking on Ticketmaster.ca, calling 1-855-GOLDEYE or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the box office at Shaw Park.
