
Skeeters Take Series Over Somerset, Offense Keeps Rolling In Third Straight Win

SUGAR LAND, TEXAS- The Sugar Land Skeeters won their third straight game Sunday night, beating the Somerset Patriots 9-6 to secure the series win. Sugar Land has won 9 of 10 games against Somerset this season. The Skeeters have 7 games left in the first half and sit three games behind York for 1st place in the Freedom Division.
Somerset scored first for the fourth straight night on Bryan Lahair's RBI single that scored Mycal Jones to put the Patriots up 1-0 in the 1st. Josh Prince' homer in the bottom half of the inning tied it back up at 1-1. Beamer Weems put the Skeeters ahead in the 2nd with a single to right that would score Kent Matthes to make it 2-1. Christian Guzman's error on the play would allow Albert Cordero to score, extending Sugar Land's lead to 3-1.
Sean Gallagher ran into some trouble in the top of the 5th as he quickly loaded the bases with no outs. Somerset took advantage as Eric Farris would ground into a double play, scoring Vinny Zarrillo to make it 3-2. Bryan Lahair's sharp liner to left would score Mycal Jones to tie the game back up at 3-3.
The Skeeters broke the game open with a five-run 7th inning off former Skeeter, Chris Treibt. Jeremy Barfield led the way with a two-run double that scored Jeff Dominguez and Beamer Weems to make it 5-3. Ricky Hague tacked on another run with a single that would score Barfield. Kent Matthes' two-run double brought home Travis Scott and Ricky Hague to make it 8-3 Skeeters after 7.
The Patriots charged back in the 8th with a three-run inning. Rob Kral started things off with a double to right that would score David Vidal to make it 8-4. A throwing error by Albert Cordero allowed Kral to score, making it 8-5. Mycal Jones' RBI double to right got the Patriots back within a couple runs at 8-6. Jeff Dominguez added an insurance run in the 8th on a single that would score Josh Prince to make it 9-6 Skeeters.
Derrick Loop came on in the 9th to record his 15th save and extended his home scoreless streak to 14 consecutive games.
