
Skeeters Suffer First Setback of Season, 6-0

SUGAR LAND, TEXAS - The Sugar Land Skeeters suffered their first setback on the season in the series finale against Lancaster, falling 6-0, on an overcast Sunday afternoon at Constellation Field. Barnstormers' starter Matt Packer surrendered just two hits and one walk over six innings to earn the win. The Skeeters bullpen turned in another impressive performance, surrendering just two runs over the final 6.2 innings.
Kevin Russo paced the offense for Sugar Land, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Lancaster took a 1-0 lead in the first and expanded the advantage to 3-0 in the top of the second. Yusuke Kajimoto worked a five-pitch walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch and stealing third. David Cooper drove in the Barnstormer's second basemen on a single through the right side in the first. Kevin Rivers led off the second with a single down the left field line on a check swing before Dan Coury hit a two run home run into left.
Skeeters' starter Daniel Meadows lasted just 2.1 innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits and two walks. The southpaw left the bases loaded in the third. Derek Blacksher surrendered a sacrifice fly to Coury before getting a big strikeout to strand a pair.
The Barnstormers added a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh off Blacksher and John Lujan to expand the lead to 6-0.
The Skeeters continue the eight-game homestand tomorrow as they open up a series with the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. and host Margarita Monday's with $2 margaritas.
