Ducks Repeat Feat From Opening Night, Winning Rubber Match In York

The Long Island Ducks took two of three from the York Revolution on opening weekend, winning by the same score and nearly the same totals on Sunday afternoon as they did on Opening Night, grabbing the series rubber match 5-2 at Santander Stadium. The Revs will look to rebound when they welcome the Lancaster Barnstormers to town on Monday in the first of a record 28-game War of the Roses series.
Much like the opener, Long Island struck for a first inning run, and led throughout the contest. Three consecutive singles, the last of which was yanked off the Arch Nemesis by Cody Puckett for an RBI, produced the game's first run.
Revs starter Logan Williamson was excellent the rest of the way, retiring 13 of his final 14 batters faced including 10 straight to cap his five-inning outing. The lefty faced the minimum over that stretch, using a pickoff to erase his only other base runner after a second inning single by Anthony Vega. Revs starters have allowed just one run in each of the season's first three games.
Ducks starter Ian Marshall held York scoreless on just three hits over five innings to win his Long Island debut in the 100th career appearance for the former Southern Maryland hurler.
Long Islanded padded its lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, as a wild pitch plated Evan Crawford and also advanced Cody Puckett who would then score on a single by Jon Griffin for a 3-0 lead.
The Revs responded as Brandon Boggs led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to left, and Eric Patterson slammed a two-run home run deep over the picnic tents in right, bringing York within 3-2.
Long Island tacked on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to pull away. The first was unearned as Bryan Sabatella reached on an error, and following a walk to Crawford and a double steal, scored on a single by Lew Ford through a drawn-in infield. Sabatella added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to close the scoring.
Five Ducks relievers combined to retire the final 11 York batters with Ryan Kussmaul securing his second save, handing the Revs their first series loss to open a season since the 2012 campaign.
