
Patriots Take Game One Late, Blue Crabs Bats Come Alive in Game Two

(Waldorf, MD., April 26th, 2015)- The Blue Crabs and the Patriots played a doubleheader off a rainout last night with Somerset winning game one 2-1, and Southern Maryland winning game two 5-1.
In game one, the Blue Crabs and the Patriots were each held scoreless until the top of the 7th. Chris Marrero led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later Greg Hopkins came up to the plate and drove one over the wall in left for a two run home run which proved to be the deciding factor in the ballgame. Right-handers Shaun Garceau, and Mickey Storey started the ballgame for Southern Maryland and Somerset respectively. Garceau worked six innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out four, while Storey went five innings striking out three.
In Game two, the Blue Crabs picked up the 5-1 victory. The first ten Southern Maryland hitters were sat down by right handed starter Randy Boone until Fred Lewis singled to left, followed by a Jake Optiz and a Cyle Hankerd single to load the bases. Daryle ward came up next and hit a groundball to the shortstop Robert Andino who committed a throwing error over the head of the second basemen Nate Spears to allow two runs to score.
The scoring continued for the Blue Crabs in the bottom of the fifth. Gustavo Molina led off the inning with a single, followed by a Casey Frawley single. Two batters later Fred Lewis singled to drive in Frawley. Left Hander T.J. Chism came out of the bullpen and uncorked a wild pitch to allow DeJesus to score from third. Opitz would double to drive in Lewis to bring the score to 5-0.
The Patriots would add a run in the Top of the 6th on a Chris Marrero RBI Double, but could muster any more runs. Gaby Hernandez picked up the win going six innings, allowing a run on six hits, and striking out seven. Randy Boone took the loss going 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits. The two-three-four hitters in the Blue Crabs batting order went a combined 6-10 with 2 runs driven in.
Southern Maryland will continue their seven game homestand on Monday, taking on the Long Island Ducks in game one of a four game series. RHP Brian Baker (0-0, 0.00), will start for the Blue Crabs in a 7:05 P.M. start.
