Skeeters Sign Outfielder Joe Benson

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters and manager Gary Gaetti announced the signing of outfielder Joe Benson prior to the contest with York on Wednesday. Benson spent a season in the Major Leagues with the Twins in 2011 and will join the team today.

Benson, 27, was drafted by Minnesota in the second-round of the 2006 Draft from Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet, Il. He spent 21 games at the Major League level with the Twins in 2011, hitting .239 with three runs, two doubles, a triple, two RBI and a stolen base. A 10-year veteran, Benson is a career .253 hitter with 85 home runs, 389 RBI and 134 stolen bags. His best season came in 2011 with the New Britain Rock Cats (MIN, AA) where he hit .285 with 16 homers, 67 RBI and 14 steals.
