July 1, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
YORK, Pa. - The Sugar Land Skeeters snapped an eight-game road losing streak with a 17-hit performance in a 9-5 win over York on Tuesday at Santander Stadium. The win improves the Skeeters' record to 34-32 on the season while the Revolution fall to 23-42.
Matt Wright earned the win for Sugar Land, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout. Anthony Lerew took the loss for York, allowing six runs on ten hits over 2.1 innings.
Delwyn Young blasted two home runs in the winning effort, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI. The multi-home run performance by Young was the second of the season for Sugar Land after Willy Taveras accomplished the feat earlier this week. Patrick Palmeiro went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish, including his fifth long ball of the season. Kevin Russo and Johan Limonta each picked up three hits apiece in the hit parade.
The Skeeters struck early in the top of the first on Young's two-out solo shot, but the early offense was answered by York in the home half of the inning. Eric Patterson tripled with one out for the Revolution before coming in to score on a single to right from Yeicok Calderon to tie the game.
York would be unable to keep pace with the Skeeters' offense, however, as Sugar Land put up three runs in the second and two runs in each the third and fourth innings, jumping out to an insurmountable, 8-1, lead.
Daniel Meadows made his return to the mound after spending over a month on the disabled list. The southpaw went 1.0 inning of relief, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout. Andrew Carpenter, Robbie Weinhardt and Hunter Cervenka combined for the relief effort to hold the lead and snap the road losing streak.
