Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters and manager Gary Gaetti earned their 300th-win in team history with a 5-2 victory over Bridgeport on Tuesday night at Harbor Yard. Third baseman Patrick Palmeiro went 2-for-3 with four RBI on a home run and a double to pace the offense. The win bolsters Sugar Land's record to 61-67 on the season.

The Skeeters jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second. Travis Scott singled to open the inning and Chris Wallace worked a walk before both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Patrick Palmeiro rifled a double into the outfield alley to score a pair and give Sugar Land a 2-0 edge.

Bridgeport would respond in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. Andres Rodriguez and Wilson Batista logged back-to-back one-out doubles to narrow the score to 2-1.

After exchanging zeroes in the third and fourth innings, the Skeeters tacked on an additional run in the top of the fifth to move the score to 3-1. Willy Taveras legged out a double to start the frame before the Bluefish were unable to handle a shot off the bat of Delwyn Young to put runners on the corners. Scott followed with a sacrifice fly to score the speedster and regain a two-run advantage.

Sugar Land went on to take a 5-1 lead in the sixth on a two-run shot from Palmeiro for the third-baseman's third and fourth RBI of the night. Palmeiro's long ball was his ninth of the season and one behind his career best season set last year.

Much like earlier in the night, Bridgeport answered the pair of runs by the Skeeters with a run of its own. Welington Dotel legged out a one-out triple before trotting home on a single from C.J. Retherford, moving the score to 5-2.
