
Barnstormers Score Four Unanswered to Sneak Past Blue Crabs

(Waldorf, MD)--- Despite Southern Maryland banging out five hits in the first two innings, Lancaster scored four unanswered runs and defeated Southern Maryland by the final of 4-2.
LHP Brian Burres left the ballgame after three innings, and gave way to RHP Sergio Perez, who pitched four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Southern Maryland got on the board first scoring two runs in the top of the second sending seven men to the plate. Jamar Walton led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Keith Castillo drove in Walton with an RBI Double to left center field to make it 1-0 Southern Maryland. Three batters later, Casey Stevenson ripped a single to right field allowing Castillo to score to make it 2-0 Blue Crabs.
That would wrap up the scoring for Southern Maryland on the night. Lancaster struck back in the top of the fourth. Lance Zawadzki lifted a homerun over the wall in left center. Sergio Perez came out of the bullpen to pitch, and the next hitter Brian Cavazos-Galves drove a homerun to nearly the same spot in left center to tie the game at 2-2. Luke Hughes was the next hitter and hughes snuck a homerun over the left field wall to give the Barstormers the lead for the first time in the game at 3-2.
Lancaster added an insurance run on a Mike McDade RBI single in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2. On the pitching side of things for the Barnstormers, RHP Mark Lamm, LHP Al Yevoli, and RHP Scott Patterson combined to give up just three hits, while not allowing a run. RHP Shunsuke Watanabe started on the hill, going five innings, allowing two runs, on seven hits, and striking out three.
The series continues tomorrow evening at 7:05 P.M. at Regency Furniture Stadium. RHP Joe Gardner (8-5, 4.02) will take the ball for Lancaster, while RHP Tim Sexton (1-0, 2.70) will toe the slab for Southern Maryland.
