Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
CAMDEN, N.J. - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost their sixth-straight game on Wednesday morning, falling to the Camden Riversharks, 3-2, in walk-off fashion. The loss drops Sugar Land to 7-12 in the second half and 43-46 overall.
Catcher Kelly Cross recorded his first multi-hit game as a member of the Skeeters, going 2-for-4 with a run scored to pace the offense.
The Skeeters utilized the long ball in the top of the third to take an early advantage in the morning contest. Cross picked up a single through the left-side of the infield with one out before Denny Almonte hit a two-run bomb, scraping off the top of the wall but clearing the fence, giving Sugar Land a 2-0 lead.
Camden would cut the Skeeters lead in half in the bottom of the fourth. Mike Costanzo took Sean Gallagher's first offering of the inning over the wall in left, moving the score to 2-1.
The Riversharks would push across the equalizer in the bottom of the fifth. Michael Rockett singled through the left-side of the infield with one out and stole second. Following a groundout, Brandon Chaves singled into center to score Rockett and tie the game at two.
Gallagher turned in a quality outing for Sugar Land, but was stuck with a no-decision after giving up the tying run in the fifth. The right-hander went 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three.
Ramon Delgado tossed a pair of shutout frames in the seventh and eighth, scattering a pair of hits before giving way to Andrew Johnston in the ninth.
Evan Crawford reached on a leadoff single to right before being moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt. Johnston induced a groundout from Rockett for the second out. After a walk, Brandon Chaves poked Johnston's 1-1 offering into left, bringing home Crawford and giving the Riversharks the 2-1 victory.
