Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
YORK, Pennsylvania - Matt Hagen provided the only run for the Sugar Land Skeeters (22-31) with a solo home run in game four against the York Revolution (27-26) in a 6-1 loss at Sovereign Bank Stadium Wednesday night. The Skeeters drop the four-game series, 3-1.
Former Revs pitcher and current Skeeters starter Michael Nix (1-6) made his second start of the season, but ended up with the loss after a solid outing of four innings and five strikeouts. He walked only one batter but did allow three earned runs.
The Revolution scored their first three runs in the bottom of the third inning off Nix with a few well placed doubles. Shortstop Danny Gonzalez started the inning with a walk but quickly came home on an RBI-double from designated-hitter Brandon Haveman to take a 1-0 lead. After a sacrifice-bunt pushed Haveman to third, third baseman Ramon Castro took over the Revs all-time leader in doubles with his 73 of his career scoring Haveman from third to double the lead, 2-0. Second baseman Andres Perez hit the third double of the inning bringing Castro around to notch the lead up a run, 3-0.
The Skeeters replied in kind in the top of the fifth, though. Left fielder Matt Hagen absolutely crushed a fastball off reliever Dumas Garcia (1-0) over Arch Nemisis, the 38 foot eight inch green monster in left field to give Sugar Land a chance, 3-1. It was his second home run of the season and his fifth hit of the series.
However, York capitalized off reliever Dustin Richardson in the bottom of the seventh inning with three more to double their score total. Catcher Travis Scott led the inning off with a single and a stolen base. Gonzalez walked for the second time and Haveman singled to load the bases. Center fielder Scott Grimes tallied his first hit of the series with an RBI-single to push the lead back to three, 4-1, in the next at-bat. With the bases still loaded and no outs in the inning, Castro accomplished another feat with a sacrifice-fly into center to bring Gonzalez home from third to increase the lead, 5-1. The RBI made Castro the all-time leader in RBI in Revolution franchise history. First baseman Chris Nowak singled in the sixth run in the next at-bat capping the scoring, 6-1.
In the top of the ninth, Sugar Land had Josh Pressley, Ofilio Castro and Steve Moss to send to the plate, but Revs closer R.J. Rodriguez struck out the side in a none-save situation to retire the game.
