Patriots Erase Five Run Deficit to Defeat Blue Crabs 6-5

Waldorf, MD - The Somerset Patriots (26-26) overcame a five run deficit and scored six unanswered runs as they defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (25-27) 6-5 Wednesday night from Regency Furniture Stadium. Four Patriots relievers, Carlton Smith, Chase Wright, Mike Solbach and Josh Rupe, combined to throw seven shutout innings as the Patriots notched their 10th come from behind victory of the season.

The Blue Crabs batted around in the first inning as they scored three runs to take an early 3-0 lead. First baseman Jesse Gutierrez hit an RBI groundout, left fielder Brian Barton smacked an RBI double and third baseman Matt Padgett blooped an RBI single to center field.

In the bottom of the second inning the Blue Crabs added two more runs on a two run double by Gutierrez expanding the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the third inning the Patriots responded with three runs of their own. Second baseman Freddie Bynum laced a two RBI double down the left field line and the Patriots would add another run on a fielding error by Padgett.

The Patriots chipped away in the top of the fifth frame as third baseman Jeff Nettles hit an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 5-4.

In the top of the seventh inning shortstop Yunesky Sanchez clubbed a go ahead two run home run (2) to deep left field to give the Patriots their first lead at 6-5.

Wright earned his third win of the season, Eduardo Morlan suffered his second loss of the season and Rupe collected his 10th save of the 2012 campaign.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 25th when the Patriots return home to take on the Long Island Ducks at TD Bank Ballpark at 7:05 pm.
