Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - After battling rain for much of the afternoon, the Sugar Land Skeeters came up just short against the York Revolution, falling 4-2 in front of 5,555 fans at Constellation Field. The loss drops Sugar Land to 10-13 and is the eighth loss in its last 10 contests.

York claimed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with back-to-back one-out doubles. Wilson Valdez slapped a ball the opposite way down the right field line before coming in to score on an Eric Patterson double to left.

The Skeeters collected three singles from the first four batters to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first off starter Rommie Lewis. Willy Taveras drove a ball through the right side and Beamer Weems extended his on-base streak to 14 games with a single into left-center. After providing the walk-off home run last night, Chris Wallace pulled a single down the line in left, pushing in the speedy Taveras from second.

After the Skeeters tied the game, York reclaimed the lead on a two-run home run off the bat of Johan Limonta. The home run was the fourth extra-base hit of the game in the top of the second.

Derek Blacksher went 3.0 innings in his first start of the season with Sugar Land, giving up three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three. The right-hander was saddled with his first loss of the year, getting only two runs of offensive support.

Making his first appearance with Sugar Land this season, Ramon Delgado gave up a run in the top of the fourth. Brandon Jones poked a single through the right-side and stole second with two outs to move into scoring position. Valdez sprayed a ball just past the glove of Zazueta at second, bringing in Jones and giving the Revolution a 4-1 cushion.

Kevin Russo hit his first round-tripper with the Skeeters in the bottom of the fourth. With one-out, the right-fielder belted Lewis' full-count offering into the Wells Fargo Picnic Plaza to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Sugar Land brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth, eighth and ninth, but was unable to push across the equalizer in the loss.
