
Blue Crabs and the Patriots Split Doubleheader in Waldorf

(Waldorf MD., May 17, 2015)--- After last night's game was called because of rain, the Blue Crabs and the Patriots played two seven innings game for the second time this season. The Blue Crabs won in dramatic fashion in game one, and the Patriots with a late rally in game two, took home the victory 4-2.
In game one, the Patriots got on the board first with an RBI single from Chris Marrero. In the top of the second, Greg Hopkins would double, and advance to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Scott Kelly would single to center to score Hopkins to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, the Blue Crabs would get on the board with an RBI single from Renny Osuna to score Antone DeJesus to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, the Blue Crabs would take their first lead of the series putting up two runs. With Antone DeJesus at second, Zach Wilson would lace a single to right to score DeJesus. Cyle Hankerd would then double to left field to score Wilson to take a 3-2 lead.
The Patriots would counter punch with two runs to retake the lead. Greg Hopkins would take the lead with a single. Nate Spears would then ground out, and Scott Kelly would come to the plate and single to score Hopkins. Fernando Nieve would come on to pitch out of the Blue Crabs bullpen, and Scott Kelly would score on an RBI single from Jonny Tucker.
Southern Maryland would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Renny Osuna would come up and hit a homer over the wall in left field to tie the game. Osuna would play the hero one more time, as Tyler Wagner led off the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single. Antone DeJesus would then drop down a sacrifice bunt to advance Wagner to second. Renny Osuna would then single to right center to score Wagner for the walk off 5-4 win. It was the second time in as many game that Jon Hunton would blow the save.
In game two, Somerset would take an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the first, Jonny Tucker would single and advance to second on an error by the right fielder Jamar Walton. Two batter later Thomas Neal would single to score Tucker.
Southern Maryland would be held scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Jamar Walton would single to center, followed by a Casey Frawley single to put runners at first and second. Tyler Wagner would then drop down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at first and second. The next batter Antone DeJesus would single to right to score Walton from third. Renny Osuna would drive in Frawley with a single to make it 2-1.
Somerset though would pick themselves back up, and retake the lead in the top of the sixth. Aharon Eggleston would get hit by a pitch. Thomas Neal would then double to left field to put runners at second and third. Orlando Santos would come out of the bullpen in relief for starter Wade Korpi. Chris Marrero would pop out, and David Vidal would be intentionally walked to load the bases. The next hitter Adam Donachie would double off the wall to score two runs. Robert Andino would then reach first on an error by Renny Osuna to score David Vidal to make it 4-2.
The Blue Crabs will look to even the four game series tomorrow evening in the final game of the set. RHP Mickey Storey (3-0, 1.17) will take the ball for Somerset, while RHP Brian Baker (1-0, 3.57) will pitch for the Blue Crabs. The first pitch is set for 7:05 from Regency Furniture Stadium.
