Revs Double Up Skeeters, Even Series In Texas

The York Revolution waited out a lengthy rain delay, and the wait proved worthwhile as the Revs grabbed a 4-2 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters on Sunday afternoon in front of 5,555 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs have now won three of their last four, and will look to close their road trip with a series win in the finale in Sugar Land on Monday night.

Sunday's game finally got underway following a delay of two hours and 29 minutes, the second longest in Revs history and just ten minutes shy of matching the record.

York jumped ahead quickly in the top of the first as Wilson Valdez and Eric Patterson struck consecutive opposite field doubles with one out, as Patterson drove in Valdez for a 1-0 lead.

Sugar Land answered with a run in the bottom of the first, coming on a trio of singles, the third of which came from cleanup hitter Chris Wallace, tying the score at 1-1. Revs starter Rommie Lewis retired the final two batters, however, stranding a pair of runners in scoring position.

The Revs went back ahead an inning later, and did so for good in Sunday's contest. Andres Perez led off with a double to deep center field, and following a lengthy battle, Johan Limonta cranked a 3-2 pitch deep into the Revs' bullpen beyond the fence in right-center for a two-run homer, his third of the year, giving York a 3-1 lead.

The Revs added one more in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI single to right by Valdez, scoring Brandon Jones who had led off the inning with a single and a steal of second base, extending the lead to 4-1.

Sugar Land responded as Kevin Russo connected on a solo home run to left, his first of the year, in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the York lead to 4-2, but neither team's pitching staff would budge the rest of the way.

A key moment came in the sixth inning for both teams. Mikey Reynolds lined a triple into the right field corner, reaching third base with only one out, but was unable to score. Sugar Land then responded as Delwyn Young led off the home half of the inning with a double off the fence in left-center, before taking third on a wild pitch with still no outs. Lewis rebounded to record the first out, then exited after Dustin Martin reached on a swinging bunt hit. Martin stole second base to take away the double play possibility, but reliever Beau Vaughan struck out both Russo and Patrick Palmeiro in succession, forcing the Skeeters to squander their opportunity, leaving both runners in scoring position.

Vaughan returned for a 1-2-3 seventh, including a diving catch in right field by Limonta for the first out. Julio DePaula and Josh Judy handled the eighth and ninth, respectively, with Judy nailing down his fourth save of the season.

Lewis (3-1) earned the win, allowing just two runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. He walked none and struck out five batters.

Skeeters starter Derek Blacksher (0-1) took the loss, charged with three runs on six hits over three innings of work.

Valdez led York's 13-hit attack, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, and three stolen bases.

Notes: Valdez now has 63 steals in his Revs career, six shy of tying Scott Grimes' franchise record. He has also now hit safely in six of his last seven at-bats. Reynolds went 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games; it marks his eighth multi-hit game on the streak. York has now won six of its last eight on the road, improving to 6-6 on the road for the season. The Revs starting rotation has allowed just four earned runs in 24.1 innings over the last four games, posting a 1.48 ERA. The Revs stole a season-high four bases as a team. Perez' double marked the 80th of his Revs career, becoming the second player in team history to reach that plateau; he is two doubles shy of tying Ramon Castro's franchise record of 82. With a 1-for-4 night, Perez is now 10-for-24 (.417) on a six-game hitting streak. Patterson's double was the 59th of his Revs career, moving into seventh in franchise history. York right-hander Corey Thurman (1-2, 8.31) starts Monday's series finale, opposed by Sugar Land righty Shane Loux (0-1, 3.38).
