Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters won their third-straight game with a 7-3 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Wednesday evening at Harbor Yard in front of 2,784 fans. Sugar Land trailed early, but poured it on in the fourth and seventh innings to come away with the victory. The win improves the Skeeters' record to 62-67 on the year.

Sean Gallagher impoved to 5-9 on the mound for the Skeeters with a dominant performance. After starting the year 1-9, Gallagher has won four of his last six starts. The former big leaguer went 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Willy Taveras paced the offense at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base while Patrick Palmeiro and Chris Wallace each drove home a pair.

Bridgeport broke the scoring seal in the bottom of the first as Gallagher struggled with his command early in the game. Josh Prince drew a one-out walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Welington Dotel singled home the game's first run to give the Bluefish a 1-0 advantage.

The Bluefish would increase the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Dotel drew a one-out walk and stole second with two outs to move into scoring position. Andres Rodriguez and Wilson Batista followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to move the score to 3-0.

Sugar Land would remain unfazed, however, as the Skeeters rattled off seven unanswered runs to close out the game. After Travis Scott and Wallace singled to open the top of the fourth, Palmeiro came through with a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to one. It was the Skeeters third baseman's fifth and sixth RBI so far in the series with the Bluefish. Palmeiro would advance to third on a flyout to right from Kevin Russo before coming home to tie the game on a sacrifice fly from Renny Osuna. Amadeo Zazueta followed with a two-base error by the shortstop to move into scoring position and came home on a single from Taveras to give Sugar Land the lead.

Delwyn Young extended his on-base streak to 25 games in the top of the fifth, matching the longest by a Skeeters player this season. Young and Wallace each blasted home runs in the top of the seventh, sandwiched around a single from Scott to bolster the cushion to 7-3.

James Parr, Robbie Weinhardt and Dan Runzler scattered one hit over the final three innings to secure the victory for Sugar Land.
