Skeeters Score Seven Unanswered Runs To Defeat Bluefish

(Bridgeport, CT- September 9, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-32, 53-76) were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (26-33, 62-67) 7-3 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday night and have now dropped the first two of the three-game midweek series. The Skeeters improve to 15-5 in 2015 against the Bluefish and are 55-25 in the all-time head-to-history between the two ballclubs.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Brandon Bixler (0-2) suffered the loss, going four innings, allowing four runs (three earned runs) on five hits, while walking and striking out two. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Sean Gallagher (5-9) picked up the victory with a quality start, tossing six innings, surrendering three runs on nine hits, walking three, striking out six and throwing a wild pitch.

Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Gallagher in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring single by All-Star Welington Dotel, plating Josh Prince with the game's first run after he reached with a one-out walk and moved up into scoring position on a wild pitch. The 'Fish would add a pair of insurance runs in the home half of the third for a 3-0 cushion on back-to-back RBI doubles by Andres Rodriguez and Wilson Batista. The two-bagger for Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to six consecutive games.

Sugar Land would answer right back in the top of the fourth inning, sending eight men to the plate, picking up four runs on four hits off Bixler to take their first lead of the evening at 4-3. Patrcik Palmeiro drove home a pair with a double to start the scoring for the visitors. Renny Osuna brought Palmeiro home with a sacrifice fly, and Willy Taveras completed the rally with an RBI single of his own, part of a three-hit night for the Skeeters leadoff batter. Palmeiro now has four extra-base hits in the series (three doubles and a home run), along with six runs batted in. The Skeeters would add three insurance runs in the seventh off Jimmy Anderson on a solo home run to left field by Delwyn Young, and a two-run blast off the batter's eye in straightaway center field by Chris Wallace, as Sugar Land scored seven unanswered runs en route to the victory. Dotel stole two more bases in the losing effort, adding to his Atlantic League lead of 42. Jobduan Morales, Juan Martinez, and Dotel led the offensive attack for the Bluefish with two hits apiece.

Bridgeport concludes their series with the Sugar Land Skeeters at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday, September 10th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 50 Shades of Blue T-shirt, a play on the popular book and movie series 50 Shades of Grey.
