WALDORF, Md. - The Sugar Land Skeeters lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games, falling to Southern Maryland, 4-2 in front of 2,614 fans at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. The loss drops the Skeeters to 9-14 in the second half and 45-48 overall.

Josh Geer turned in a decent start for Sugar Land, throwing 5.0 innings of work. The former member of the San Diego Padres surrendered two runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts. He left tied 2-2 to be stuck with a no-decision.

Infielders Delwyn Young and Renny Osuna paced the offense for the Skeeters. Both recorded three hits in the setback and Osuna scored a run against his former team.

Southern Maryland opened the scoring in the home half of the first after a pair of two-out doubles to left field from Zach Wilson and Jovan Rosa to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Skeeters put together a two-out rally to tie the game in the top of the third. Chris Wallace worked one of his three walks on the afternoon to keep the inning alive. Young reached on a single to right and Travis Scott, in his first game back after coming off the disabled list, singled to left to score Wallace and knot the game up at one.

In the fourth, Amadeo Zazueta lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to score Osuna and stake Sugar Land to a 2-1 lead. Denny Almonte stole his 20th-bag of the season, moving the outfielder into a tie for second in the single-season stolen base laurels in Sugar Land history.

The Blue Crabs scored individual runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh off Geer, Tim Gustafson and Cory VanAllen to take the lead for good. Wilson homered to lead off the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Gustafson surrendered a walk, single, sacrifice bunt and another single to give the Blue Crabs the lead before VanAllen gave up a home run to Jovan Rosa to expand the lead to 4-2.
