Revs Denied In Another Close Affair In Camden

The York Revolution were unable to find the clutch hit, dropping their second straight in Camden with a 3-1 setback to the Riversharks on Sunday afternoon. The Revs fall to 3-3 on their current road trip and 12-11 in the second half, three games behind Lancaster in second place. The Revs will aim for a four-game split in Camden and a winning record on their seven-game road trip in the finale on Monday at 11:05 a.m.
The Revs missed on early chances to score in Sunday's contest including a bad bounce in the top of the fifth. With one out in the inning, Luis De La Cruz singled to right and James Simmons belted a drive to deep center. De La Cruz was rounding third but the ball bounced over the fence for a ground-rule double, preventing the run from scoring. With the infield in, Camden starter Eric Smith retired Jose Constanza on a ground ball to short, and after hitting Wilson Valdez with a pitch, escaped the bases-loaded jam by inducing a pop up off the bat of Eric Patterson.
Revs starter Frank Gailey was outstanding early, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning, having retired 12 of his first 13 batters.
Ryan Strieby opened the home fifth with a single to left, and Mike Costanzo reached on a fielder's choice with a throwing error charged to second baseman Mikey Reynolds, attempting to record the lead out. Gailey nearly escaped, striking out the next two hitters and jumping ahead of ninth place hitter Evan Crawford with a 1-2 count, but after losing Crawford to a walk, Daniel Rockett and Zach MacPhee drove in runs on consecutive infield singles. MacPhee reached on a line drive off Gailey's leg, forcing the pitcher's exit from the contest.
The Revs again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth as Bryan Pounds struck his second double of the game on a line drive to left-center, Andres Perez singled to left, and Reynolds drew a walk, all with one out. Smith would escape, however, rolling a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of De La Cruz to end the inning, as the righty stranded eight over six scoreless frames.
York scored off reliever T.J. Chism in the top of the seventh when Constanza reached on an infield hit, took second on a ground out, stole third, and came home on a bloop single to right-center by Yeicok Calderon, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Camden scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Carlos Guzman launched a two-out solo homer to right against reliever Ty'Relle Harris, providing the final margin.
Smith (2-5) earned the win in just his sixth start of the season, having been used in spot-start duty throughout the year. Matt Gorgen earned his 19th save and second in as many contests.
Gailey (2-3) suffered the loss, charged with two unearned runs on just three hits in 4.2 innings, exiting the game early.
Notes: York falls to 9-4 vs. Camden this season, having dropped back-to-back games after winning seven straight. Perez' single in the sixth marked his club record 397th hit all-time with York, approaching the milestone of 400 hits. Monday's game wraps a stretch on which the Revs will have played 14 of their last 17 on the road. York lefty Logan Williamson (5-7, 3.50) will face Sharks southpaw Steve Garrison (2-4, 3.75) on Monday morning.
