Sizzling Six-Point Weekend Lands Werbik Forward of Week Honors
February 19, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
For the first time this season a Buccaneer has been named one of the USHL Players of the Week.
Netting three goals and adding three assists in two games, Nicolas Werbik is this week's Forward of the Week in the USHL.
"I want to give huge credit to my line mates and teammates as there is no way I accomplish this without them," Werbik said. "It feels good, but we can't settle and have to keep working to bring the positives with us to the next game."
His line had a magnificent weekend, as not only did Werbik tally six points, but so did his line mate Brian Halonen. Let's not forget the third portion of the terrific trio, Julian Napravnik, who had himself a four-point weekend.
Werbik has been leading the Buccaneers in scoring all season long and now has 19 goals and 14 assists in 40 contests. After leading the Youngstown Phantoms last season in scoring, the Czech center is well on his way back to another team scoring title, but in different colors.
Des Moines looks to keep grooving with a four-game home stand ahead. First on Friday it's the Waterloo Blackhawks, who will be thirsty after dropping two straight in Youngstown last weekend. The Bucs wrap up the month of February on Saturday with the Tri-City Storm on "Doxie Dash Night" from Buccaneer Arena.
