Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Trailing by two runs, the Round Rock Express (70-63) plated 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to knock off the Oklahoma City RedHawks (76-57) 12-3 Thursday night at Dell Diamond.
A pair of home runs accounted for seven of the 10 scores in the inning, while Express starter Scott Richmond put together his first quality start since July 29 to earn the win.
First baseman Jim Adduci put the Express on the board first, punching a line drive through a drawn in infield to plate left fielder Aaron Cunningham for a 1-0 lead in the third.
Richmond dazzled through the first four innings, allowing just one hit, but the RedHawks evened the score in the fifth. Left fielder Marc Krauss took the right-hander's 3-1 offering out to left to tie the game at one apiece.
One inning later, the long ball would again hurt Richmond as third baseman Brandon Laird launched a two-out, two-run shot to put the RedHawks ahead 3-1.
Oklahoma City starter Paul Clemens allowed just three hits through the first five innings, but the Express turned the tables on the right-hander in the sixth. After loading the bases, Round Rock scored its first run on a fielder's choice before designated hitter Chris McGuiness delivered a grand slam to put the E-Train up 6-3. A single and hit batter later chased Clemens from the game, but shortstop Brendan Harris and Adduci greeted the RedHawk relieving corps with a pair of RBI singles. Holding an 8-3 lead and still in the sixth, center fielder Engel Beltre belted a three-run home run in his second at-bat of the inning to cap the scoring for the frame.
After 10 runs in the sixth, Richmond continued to deal his way through the seventh, giving way to right-hander Neftali Feliz out of the bullpen to start the eighth. Feliz faced the minimum, registering one strikeout on nine pitches.
Round Rock tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth before Ryan Rodebaugh finished off the evening by stranding the bases loaded for a scoreless ninth. Clemens (3-2) suffered the loss after allowing a season-high eight runs (seven earned) as Richmond (5-6) picked up his fifth victory.
The Express and RedHawks continue a five-game set at Dell Diamond tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Josh Lindblom (8-2, 2.74 ERA) will take the mound for Round Rock, while Oklahoma City will send Asher Wojciechowski (8-6, 3.52 ERA) to the hill. Friday night will be the final showcase of Budweiser Friday Fireworks as the Central Texas sky will light up following the conclusion of the game with a spectacular pyrotechnic display.
