Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Wednesday that the club has signed infielder Brendan Harris to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. In a corresponding move, infielder Guilder Rodriguez was transferred to Double-A Frisco Thursday.
Harris, 32, was released from his minor league contract with the New York Yankees on Wednesday before signing with the Rangers later in the day. He was not placed on the 40-man roster. Harris began the season with the Los Angeles Angels before being designated for assignment on July 20 and outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on July 23. He refused the assignment and elected free agency, signing with the Yankees on July 26.
Harris batted .233 (17-for-73) with a homer and four RBI in 22 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after hitting .206 (22-for-107) with four home runs and nine RBI in 44 games with the Angels. He has spent time in the major leagues with six different organizations following his fifth round selection in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs. A 2002 graduate of the College of William and Mary, he set single-season school records in home runs (18), RBI (69) and slugging percentage (.757).
Rodriguez, 30, played in 12 games with the Express since being transferred from Frisco to Round Rock on August 10. Over his 12 games, he hit .319 (15-for47) with three RBI and 10 runs scored. Rodriguez was riding a four-game hitting streak in which he was 8-for-17 (.471) prior to his departure from the team.
With these moves, the current Express roster sits at 25 active with three on the disabled list and two major league rehabs.
