Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-A pair of two-run home runs helped launch the Reno Aces to a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night, in the series opener over the Salt Lake Bees at Aces Ballpark.
Ed Easley's RBI single plated a run in the first inning to give the Aces an early 1-0 lead, but the Bees quickly responded in the bottom of the frame as Andy Marte blasted a home run to left field.
Juan Rivera's two-run shot in the fifth extended Reno's lead to 3-1, and Mike Jacobs added a pair of insurance runs with his own long ball in the eighth.
The Bees made things interesting in the ninth by tacking on a couple of runs. Reno native Scott Cousins represented the winning run at the plate, and was issued a walk to load the bases. Reliever David Hernandez struck out Tommy Field to end the threat and secure the victory for Reno.
Rivera went 2-for-4 on the night, recording Reno's only multi-hit effort.
RHP Zeke Spruill continued his successful season for the Aces, allowing just one run on six hits in 7.0 innings. The outing lowered his season ERA to 3.20.
The series continues Thursday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Matt Wright (2-1, 7.13 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Bees will counter with RHP Barry Enright (7-6, 6.88 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and all of the action can be heard live at KPLY 630 AM.
Tickets are available for Reno's final home series against Salt Lake from Aug. 21-25 at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
