Sixers Rattle Quakes with Second Straight Walk-Off
July 8, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers' David Fletcher sprinted home in the bottom of
the ninth on Zach Houchins' sac fly to defeat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6-5 at San Manuel
Stadium on Thursday. The win split a four-game set with the Quakes and was Inland Empire's
second consecutive walk-off coming on heels of Wednesday's 13-inning thriller.
The Quakes got a run in the first and then made it 2-0 in the second when Joey Curletta
smashed a solo shot to left field, his eighth of the year. Inland Empire (30-55, 7-8) got a run in
the fourth when Houchins drilled an RBI double. Rancho Cucamonga (51-34, 9-6) loaded the
bases in the sixth without a hit to chase Sixers starter Jeremy Rhoades. Curletta struck again on
the first pitch that IE reliever Adam Hofacket delivered by smashing a bases clearing double into
left moving the Quakes' lead to 5-1.
The 66ers matched the big top of the sixth with three runs of their own in the bottom of the
frame to make it 5-4. With two on and one out Ryan Sebra hammered a ball to the deep left- centerfield gap for a two-run triple. He then scored on Ayendy Perez' sac fly. The Sixers tied the
game at 5-5 in the seventh when Fletcher walked to open the frame and scored on Hutton
Moyer's RBI double.
Kevin Grendell (1-3) struck out the side with a perfect top of the ninth for the Sixers to set the
stage for the walk-off win in the bottom of the inning. Fletcher opened with a base-hit to right
against southpaw Wes Helsabeck (1-1). After Moyer struck out Fletcher broke to for second
base with Wade Wass at the plate. With Fletcher on the move Helsabeck picked to first, the
attempted throw at second by Quakes' first baseman Edwin Rios skipped into left and moved
the runner to third. Wass and Taylor Ward were intentionally walked setting up Houchins'
game-winning sac fly. Fletcher and Jeff Boehm had two-hit games for the Sixers.
The Sixers open a series versus Lancaster Friday at 7:05 at San Manuel Stadium. The contest can
be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
