Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino evened a three-game set with the Lancaster JetHawks with a 4-3 win on Tuesday. The 66ers got a tie-busting homer from Alexis Olmeda in the seventh inning and seven innings of work at shortstop from Angels star Andrelton Simmons in the win.
The 66ers (28-47, 2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Ryan Vega doubled and eventually scored on Gleyvin Pineda's sac fly. The JetHawks (38-36, 4-2) captured the lead in the third when Taylor Snyder homered, his fifth, and another unearned run scored when the Sixers made two errors on the same double-steal play executed by Lancaster. The runs (one earned) were charged to Inland Empire starter Cristopher Molina in his Cal League debut. He got a no-decision tossing five frames. The Sixers tied the game in the sixth when Vega delivered a RBI single scoring Orland Martinez who had walked against Lancaster starter Lucas Gilbreath (3-5), his lone walk allowed in six frames. Olmeda's homer off Gilbreath in the seventh gave the Sixers a 3-2 advantage. DC Arendas singled, stole second and eventually scored IE's fourth run on a sac fly by Gareth Morgan. The JetHawks, who had erased a five-run deficit on Monday in the ninth inning, looked to have another comeback in store on Tuesday but Travis Herrin (2-2) was able close the deal. Herrin was perfect through his first three frames but in the ninth Lancaster cut the lead to 4-3 and had runners at second an third base but Herrin struck out Austin Bernard to end the threat and the game. Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons had and infield hit and a walk in a 1-for-3 rehab appearance (ankle).
The series continues Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be seen and heard live at 66ers.com.
