Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - In a Wednesday-morning tilt, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were blanked by the Lake Elsinore Storm, dropping the series due to a 5-0 loss.
The top-of-the-first inning foreshadowed the remainder of the game for several reasons, as MacKenzie Gore worked out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out three-straight Rancho hitters.
Gore (7-1), earning his Cal League leading seventh win, used the battle-back momentum in the top of the first to propel him in tossing 6.2 scoreless frames. The southpaw allowed just three hits, recorded nine strikeouts and issued just one walk. Gore faced one over the minimum in his final 21 batters faced.
Unfortunately, failing to score in the first, set the tone for the Quakes' bats as well. The zero in the run column on Wednesday extended a streak that tallies 20 such innings, dating back to the second inning of the game-two loss.
Eguy Rosario headlined Lake Elsinore's five runs with a two-run inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the fifth, on a ball that Niko Hulsizer lost in the daytime sky.
Michael Grove produced his first scoreless appearance since May 21st, spinning two scoreless frames to begin the game. Wills Montgomerie (5-2) piggy-backed Grove, shouldering the loss, allowing five earned runs in 4.2 innings.
Rancho finished the seven-game, seven-day road trip with a 2-5 record, grabbing just a single win against Lancaster and Lake Elsinore.
On Thursday, in an attempt to right the ship, the Boys in Blue will send RHP Josiah Gray (4-0) to the mound. As for the visiting JetHawks, they will slate RHP Garrett Schilling (4-3) in game one of the four-game set.
Alas, the Quakes are back at LoanMart Field for the first time in 11 days, as they will start their first home stand of the second half on Thursday with a Punch Bowl Social Thirsty Thursday and a Smile Generation Cody Bellinger Bobblehead Giveaway on Friday.
