Six T-Birds Score In Double Figures As Albuquerque Knocks Off Rio Grande Valley

BOISE, IDAHO, Jan. 4, 2010 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Monday afternoon, 101 - 84, in the opening game of the 2010 NBA Development League Showcase. Carlos Powell and Yaroslav Korolev each scored 20 points to lead six T-Birds players in double figures.
Albuquerque trailed 23 - 20 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Vipers by six in the second quarter to take a 45 - 42 lead going into the half. The Thunderbirds opened the second half on an 8 - 2 run, and pushed the lead to 13 at the end of the quarter.
The T-Birds never trailed in the second half, and pushed the lead to as many as 19 in the fourth quarter. The win marks the first time that the T-Birds have won consecutive games this season.
Antoine Agudio added 17 points for Albuquerque. Shane Edwards (14), Kevin Pittsnogle (12) and Chad Toppert (11) also scored in double figures for the T-Birds.
Garrett Temple led Rio Grande Valley with 18 points. Former T-Bird Will Conroy added 15.
Albuquerque shot 49.3% from the field for the game. The T-Birds improve to 1 - 2 against the Vipers this season.
The Thunderbirds will continue their road trip when they again take on the Tulsa 66ers on Jan. 7 as part of the 2010 NBA D-League Showcase. The game will begin at 11:00 am MT, and fans can either listen in on 1050 KTBL or watch the game live on NBA TV.
