(SALISBURY, Md.) The Lexington Legends scored six runs in the sixth inning on only one hit and then held on to beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 6-3 Friday night, completing a three-game sweep.
The game was scoreless until the sixth, when Williams Louico relieved Delmarva starter Josh Hadel.
Michael Antonio and Jin-Ho Shin drew walks, and Humberto Arteaga was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. After Fred Ford struck out, Yowill Espinal's grounder to third base got past Joel Hutter for an error, scoring Antonio. Ethan Chapman and Terrance Gore walked, forcing in two more runs. Lex Rutledge relieved Louico and threw a wild pitch, allowing Espinal to score as Chapman moved to third and Gore to second. Bubba Starling singled to right field, scoring both runners and giving the Legends a 6-0 lead.
Delmarva came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Christian Walker, who had reached base on a two-out error by shortstop Raul Mondesi, came around to score on a double by Wynston Sawyer.
The Shorebirds cut the lead to 6-3 in the seventh on a two-run homer by Tucker Nathans. They loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but could not score, as Legends' reliever Clayton Schulz retired Adrian Marin and Steel Russel on infield popups.
Lexington starter Colin Rodgers, who pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed two hits and one unearned run, got the win. Louico (0-2) was the losing pitcher.
The Legends will open a four-game series at Lakewood Saturday. Game time is 4:05 p.m.
