Power Fire Blanks at Greensboro in 3-0 Victory

(Charleston, WV, May 3, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Greensboro 3-0 Friday at Appalachian Power Park. The Power scored in the first two innings and also in the fifth, winning their first series at home this season.

In the first inning, West Virginia scored their first run on a D.J. Crumlich double, scoring Josh Bell. The Power added their second run in the second when Ashley Ponce hit a two-out double to left that Grasshoppers' left fielder Cameron Flynn misplayed, allowing Francisco Diaz to score.

The Power added their third run in the fifth when Ashley Ponce reached on a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and error, and scored on a balk by Greensboro pitcher Ramon Del Orbe.

Orlando Castro (3-2) earned the victory for the Power by tossing six innings of three hit baseball. The left-hander struck out a season-high seven batters and did not walk a batter. Ramon Del Orbe (0-2) took the loss, allowing all three Power runs.

West Virginia continues their seven-game homestand Sunday afternoon when they welcome in the Greenville Drive for a four-game series. The Power will send John Kuchno to the mound against a Greenville pitcher to be announced.
