Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (9-18) surrendered five runs in the first and could not bounce back in the 6-0 loss to the Charleston RiverDogs (14-12) in the final game of the season series, Friday night at FirstEnergy Park. The loss snaps a two game winning streak for Lakewood and drops the home record to 5-9 on the season.
Josh Warner took the hill in his sixth start of the season, and for the second time in a row, it was a short one. With a runner on and no one out, Cito Culver put the 'Dogs up, 2-0, with a two-run shot to left.
The first frame barrage continued with two down in the inning. Peter O'Brien doubled and Yeicok Calderon walked to put two on. Reymond Nunez followed with a single that plated O'Brien and an error to Larry Greene, Jr. moved Calderon to third.
Warner (1-3) balked home the runner from third, and Nunez scored, to complete the five-run inning, on an RBI single by Taylor Dugas.
From there the story for the BlueClaws was most certainly the bullpen. After Warner departed, the bullpen took over and tossed seven and two-thirds scoreless innings behind him. Jeb Stefan was the first out of the pen and logged three and one-third scoreless and was backed up by Felix Santos who pitched three and two-thirds of scoreless ball.
Delvi Francsico took over in the ninth and allowed a leadoff double to Claudio Custodio before retiring the next two men. It was Greg Bird that singled to right and plated the sixth run for Charleston.
On the other side of the rubber it was Rafael De Paula pitching for the RiverDogs. The Yankees #10 Prospect, according to Baseball America, came in as the strikeout leader in the South Atlantic League and picked up seven more over his five scoreless frames, Friday night.
The best opportunity for Lakewood came in the fourth when they loaded the bases with one out. De Paula (2-2) bounced back to strike out Carlos Tocci looking and Zach Taylor swinging.
After the starter was dismissed, Alex Smith took over and followed with two scoreless innings and Charlie Short pitched the final two innings in scoreless fashion as well. The RiverDogs compiled 14 strikeouts on the mound, and 13 hits offensively at the plate.

RHP Shane Watson (1-2, 5.40) is scheduled to make the start for Lakewood and will be paired up against LHP Daniel Stumpf (2-0, 1.91) in the first ever meeting against a Royals affiliate for the BlueClaws.
