Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS- The RoughRiders combined to score six runs in the sixth inning, including a grand slam by first baseman Chris McGuiness, en route to a 10-1 win over the RockHounds Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The home run was McGuiness' ninth of the season.
Facing Midland starter Shawn Haviland, Frisco chipped away at the lead early. With two outs in the first, Haviland walked Jurickson Profar. A single by Mike Olt moved Profar to third. A wild pitch scored Profar and moved Olt to second. The RockHounds' hurler then walked Chris McGuiness before inducing a ground out to end the first.
Frisco added a run in both the third and the fifth inning before the scoring bonanza began in the sixth. Val Majewski led off the sixth with a single to center field. Jared Prince was hit by the pitch, the 14th time this season. Jose Felix laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to second and third before Haviland intentionally walked Engel Beltre.
With one out and the bases loaded, Haviland's night was done. Facing Brett Hunter, Leury Garcia singled scoring Majewski from third to put Frisco on top 4-0. Hunter induced a fly out before walking Mike Olt which scored Prince. Midland then made the second pitching change of the inning, bringing in Trey Barham. With a 1-2 count, Chris McGuiness launched the ball beyond the center field fence for a grand slam putting Frisco up by nine runs.
In a nine-run hole, Midland put their only run of the game on the board in the seventh. Chad Bell worked quickly striking out Anthony Aliotti and inducing a ground out by Michael Choice. Frisco then made a pitching change bringing in Tyler Tufts. His first pitch of the inning was hit down the first base line by Jeremy Barfield who turned the hit into a double. Josh Horton then singled scoring Barfield. Tufts then struck out Michael Spina to end the seventh.
The 'Riders tacked on another run in the eighth to make it a nine-run lead. Frisco reliever Miguel De Los Santos finished the night off for the RoughRiders with a 1-2-3 ninth to end the game.
Chad Bell earned his second win of the season pitching for 6.2 innings, allowing one hit, and striking out six. Shawn Haviland was tagged with his fifth loss of the season pitching for 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while walking six and striking out three.
The RoughRiders play the third of four games against Midland Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Roy Oswalt (0-0, 0.00) gets the start for the 'Riders in his third minor-league start. He will be opposed by right-hander Murphy Smith (4-3, 3.13). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and can be heard on 1630 AM KKGM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30.
